Coaster [3set]
Woodwork that Holds the Memory of the Forest.
When we built the brewery, we wanted to honour the trees that were felled and make careful use of their wood.
Giving form to that wish is Yukimushi WØRKS, a workshop based in Rankoshi. Using timber from this land, they have created flat plates, coasters and chopsticks.
The pieces are made from three species, each with its own character:
Kihada, with a soft, pale golden tone; Enju, with a deep, lustrous dark brown; and Onigurumi, a warm, subdued brown.
“The grain is proof that the tree once lived. It shows the strength that allowed it to withstand the forces of nature,” says Yukimushi WØRKS.
These items invite you to reflect on the time that has accumulated at Mori no Brewery and on the memories held within the forest’s trees.
Coasters
These coasters also grew out of our desire to use every part of the trees, and are made from offcuts.
Bring a quiet touch of the forest into everyday life with a set of three woods—Kihada, Enju and Onigurumi.
Feel the subtle differences in grain and colour close at hand.
Kihada
With its pale golden surface, Kihada gently highlights the colours of food. Its smooth texture gives a clean impression. The inner bark has long been valued as a medicinal ingredient and has supported daily life in Hokkaido.
Enju
Enju has a rich, dense presence with a glossy dark brown tone. The more it is used, the more sheen it develops, taking on a deep, mellow character. It has long been cherished by the Ainu people as a wood for tools and ritual objects.
Onigurumi
Onigurumi is characterised by a slightly greyish brown colour and fine grain, which ages into an even more subdued and calm appearance. Its nuts are an important food source for forest animals, making it one of the trees that helps sustain the forest’s natural cycle.
